Despite its complexity, a circuit board relies on a fundamental aspect to serve its function: connectivity. Similarly, my intellectual approach to writing is based on forming connections. Whether I establish relationships or common themes within a text, compare a piece of writing to previous historical events or novels, or relate a literary work to my own life or experiences, I am a learner who depends on connections to understand a text. A circuit board links several switches and wires to complete a task; likewise, I bridge together different ideas and arguments in my writing to give it a deeper meaning and overall message. As a writer, I also heavily rely on creativity as a source of inspiration to present my ideas from a unique perspective. I am a firm believer in the creative writing process, and I feel that I am able to generate an idea that is truly novel and noteworthy by thinking outside the box.
Personally, I learn the most from writing that employs symbolism, since generally these texts cannot be adequately understood by analyzing the literal meaning (surface level). The use of symbols or motifs forces me to pay closer attention to seemingly meaningless ideas or objects, as I try to determine the underlying message or theme. I value the importance of symbolism and thus incorporate a literary style where I associate ideas or entities with a specific meaning, which may not be so evident at first. I enjoy adding a sense of mystery and double meaning to add another layer to my writing and hopefully engage the reader even more.
