15 Minute Free Write
So, here I am at Hofstra, and I am blogging….. Writing online makes me feel professional. I have written online once before in my life, when I was around ten years old. I remember creating my own website and publishing posts regarding news and updates in the world of sports, which has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I would write online feeling like a sports analyst by providing my key insight to all the sports fans in the world, predicting winners and losers, and talking extensively about my favorite teams. However, I quit within a couple of weeks, as I did not realize the amount of effort required to maintain a professional-looking website. Now, after such a long time, I am back to writing online – and I still feel like a professional. But rather than a sports analyst, I now envision myself as a writer, embarking on a new journey through the world of literature in Professor Lay’s Culture & Expression class.

I am excited to express my thoughts through these blog posts and generate new ideas that can lead to thought-provoking discussions in class. I can already see myself coming back from my C&E class with fresh, unique perspectives that I would never have expected to obtain by myself; I know this will lead me to write intriguing entries on the texts and ideas we analyze in class. As a result, my writing will become stronger, and I will learn to approach literature from new angles and will see life from new viewpoints. Writing this first blog post is reminding me of all that is to come this semester and is internally motivating me to enter this class with an open mind. As I write more formal blog posts, I hope to see the quality improve, and I want to gain a better understanding of the literary works we study. Overall, I am thrilled to be able to work with Professor Lay and return to writing online.
